The village hall can now Ebay!

The Village Hall has now set up its own Ebay account so that it can auction any items which are donated to it.  All proceeds will go to the village hall fund.

Please speak to Ken Chapman to organise a photo and description of your item.  Now could be a good time to clear out your garage or loft!

Phone box at risk

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

The Upper Broughton public payphone on Top Green is planned for removal by British Telecom (BT).

To counter any objections that may be raised, BT has offered two alternatives to the complete removal of the kiosk.  The parish council seek your views on these options and invite you to contact a parish councillor as soon as possible.

1) A working phone can be retained and maintained by BT but the parish council will have to pay BT an annual subsidy of £500.  There is no guarantee that the service would include a cash call facility which would mean use may be limited to card payment only.  The parish council would receive no part of the income from the calls made.

2) The kiosk can be adopted by the parish council, effectively purchasing the empty kiosk, for the sum of £1.  This would be retained as part of the village street scene but would not provide a pay telephone.  Responsibilty for future maintenance, including repairs following any vandalism, would be the responsibilty of the parish council.

As the scheme currently stands the parish council must respond before 1st October so please make your views known to a councillor urgently.
