New phone number for the local police

Firstly, 1 0 1 is the new number to call when you need to contact the local police – when it is less urgent than an emergency 9 9 9 call. It is available now. 1 0 1 is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. It is the same number no matter what part of the country you are, throughout England and Wales. When you dial 101 you will be put through to the Police Force in whose area you are.

Residents of Upper Broughton should dial 101 (You will then be asked if you require Leicestershire Police – that is because of our Leicestershire Postcode) – THEN PRESS 1- (this will give you the option to dial our own Police Force-Notts) – PRESS OPTION 2 for Notts Police (when the call is answered ask for ‘Southern Area Control).

When to call 101? – You should call 101 to report a less urgent crime or disorder or to speak to the local officers;- for example – Your car has been stolen – Your property has been damaged or – you suspect drug use or dealing in the neighbourhood. Or to report a minor traffic collision – give the police information about crime in the area – speak to police about a general enquiry.

What is the difference between 101 and 999? – You should continue to dial 999 when it is an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, when there is a danger to life or when violence is being used or threatened.

What does it cost to call 101? – Calls to 101 from both landlines and mobile networks will cost 15p per call – no matter what time of day or night or how long you are on the call.

The deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired can textphone 18001 101.

I will attempt to deliver, around the area, some stickers / fridge labels as soon as they are to hand.
