Neighbourhood Watch – Paul Noone

A belated Happy New Year to everyone and I hope we all have a safe and secure 2012.  The new police non-emergency telephone number – “ 1 0 1 “ – was, I’m afraid, put to the test in November by a couple of people who had some ‘unwanted visitors’.  Thankfully, though, following my instructions, the callers got straight through to report the crime. Fortunately, December remained untouched and crime free.

Our local police team – PC Howard Shinn and PCSOs Kathy Lucock and Adam Woodward would be only to happy to come along and help with any security or crime prevention issues you may have.

One of the crime areas still causing concern to the police and often mentioned in the media and on television is the continuing theft of metals. Including lead from churches and other large buildings, a variety of metal theft from gardens, where the items stolen were left out – insecure – not returned to sheds and garages etc. Should anyone see any vehicles or persons possibly acting suspicious in the village, please call the police, ‘101’ – or ‘999’ if you believe a crime is in progress. During their patrols, the police are approaching any vehicles carrying scrap metal to ensure their businesses are legitimate and should they not be the vehicles can be confiscated and charges will be made. The police are also in close and regular contact with all the local scrap metal dealers to ensure they too are running their business legitimately.

Theft of 4 X 4s is still of concern in the area. Can I please urge all owners of 4×4 vehicles that they are locked away secure, even garaged if available.
